Theraflex Back Care System Westchase

TheraFlex Back Care System Westchase & Palm Harbor

Over 20 years of research and design has led to the introduction of the Theraflex Back Care System. This truly revolutionary new spinal treatment has been developed by an expert team in Cornwall and is fast becoming the worldwide benchmark for spinal treatment. This unique treatment is now available at Westchase Therapy & Back Pain Centre.

How Can Theraflex Help you?

Authoritve literature states that 95% of all back problems are of a mechanical nature. To function correctly the spine must be supple and elastic, like the spine of a healthy teenager. As the spine loses supple elasticity, the joints in the low back and base of the neck become increasingly overworked and stressed. Loss of supple elasticity is natural with time and age and is often greatly accelerated by poor posture and a sedentary lifestyle/job.

It is worth remembering that the spine is a completely mechanical structure. A wonderful structure of bone, muscle and tissue; and the best way of treating back & neck problems is achieved by using an effective mechanical approach.

The solution to back and neck pain is to restore the balance between supple elasticity and strength throughout the spine, therefore restoring the mechanical efficiency. This eliminates the overstressing of the spinal joints in the neck and lower back. This is where the Theraflex system is very effective.

How Theraflex Works in Westchase & Palm Harbor

The computerized Theraflex equipment consists of a “bionic hand” with four pistons powered by compressed air, making it light, safe, efficient, and more effective than the hands alone to restore mobility to the joints of the spine. The condition of every joint is felt through the handset, defining problem areas in the spine requiring attention. This enables therapists to use Theraflex to work with speed and energy that would otherwise be impossible to achieve in the same amount of treatment time by conventional methods.

In traditional manual therapy techniques, therapists use their fingers to apply a mobilizing force directly to the fixed joints. Whilst the procedure is good in principle, it fails because the joints of the spine are much bigger and tougher than the joints of the fingers. Many therapists destroy their hands in the attempt but the task is hopeless. The procedure is slow and the results are far from adequate.

The Theraflex mobilizing technique differs from traditional manual therapy in that gentle, alternating pressure is applied over diagonally opposed transverse processes of adjacent vertebral pairs. Therefore, mobilization is achieved through counter-rotational forces on adjacent vertebrae (as demonstrated below), and fixed or stiff vertebral pairs are gently moved through the normal range of motion.

The Theraflex treatment is administered in three phases, Rapid, Momentary and Progressive Mobilisation:

  1. Spasm – Prepares the muscles & relaxes the back and helps reduce muscle spasm (this commences and ends each treatment).
  2. Reflex – Stimulates and strengthens the back muscles and serves to stimulate stretch reflexes in these muscle groups.
  3. Progressive Mobilisation – Gently and gradually frees up the joints of the spine.

In the hands of a skilled practitioner the Theraflex treatment will:

  • Restore the mechanical efficiency of the spine
  • Relieve pain
  • Counteract structural defects
  • Rejuvenate your spine

Theraflex Case Study

Sky Sports and BBC presenter Graham Little has just completed the Marathon de Sables, which is a 150-mile race across the Sahara Desert, supposed to be the toughest foot race in the world, but admits he only managed it with help from a bionic hand! Fitness fanatic Graham had been training for the race since August, but just six weeks before the event was laid up by a bulging disc in his back, a consequence he thinks of too much running and sitting in the one place on-air at Sky Sports and the BBC.

“I had been in been in London a lot before that, and was very busy with work, so I wasn’t doing the proper stretching after training, which was probably made worse by the amount of time I was in the car and the amount of time I was sitting presenting and working. Then suddenly, six weeks before the toughest foot race on the planet, I just couldn’t get out of bed.

Back home a friend recommended physical therapist, John Magee (now based at Westchase), insisting that if I wasn’t happy he would personally give me my money back! He informed me that John and the team have a revolutionary machine that improves mobility in the spine and helps alleviate back pain.”

The revolutionary machine is called Theraflex and is fast becoming the worldwide benchmark for back pain treatment. Over 20 years of research and design has led to its introduction. This truly revolutionary new spinal treatment has been developed by an expert team in Cornwall and is helping thousands of people across the world. Theraflex was brought to Northern Ireland by Mr. Magee in 2007 and people have been traveling to his clinic from all over Ireland to benefit from this fantastic technology.  John has now introduced Theraflex at his new Florida clinics.

Theraflex is about the size of a computer mouse and has four motorized pads that work on three different settings. The ‘spasm’ mode relaxes the back muscles, the ‘reflex’ mode stimulates muscle reflexes along the spine in preparation for the crucial ‘mobilization’ phase. The condition of every joint is felt through the handset, defining problem areas in the spine requiring attention.

“The bionic hand made an unbelievable difference. I was so stiff and sore for the first few weeks I just wasn’t sure I’d make it to the start line let alone complete the race,” said Graham. “But I got more and more relief and was able to feel some strength coming back into my legs and after a few tough training sessions the week before I felt as good as new and ready to go”. “I finished the race as the top-ranked Irish man in a time of 34 hours and 24 minutes. I cannot thank John enough for the help that they have given me, I have referred numerous friends and family to these guys as the more people that know about this amazing treatment the better”.

I was one week away from back surgery when I went to Westchase Physical Therapy. It was one of the luckiest days of my life. I met with Dr. Samantha Peter who was confident she could help me. After she reviewed my MRI, she told me I didn’t need surgery. I felt as if I was given my life back. After only one session, I was almost pain free. I credit Dr Samantha Peter with saving my life. She’s amazing, professional, caring, supportive, encouraging and has a great sense of humor. Additionally, every single person I have met at Westchase PT is exactly the same way. I feel so fortunate to have found them. A huge thank you to everyone at Westchase PT.

I was treated at this facility for osteoarthritis and lower back pain for several months. Having been a figure skater in my earlier years I am very familiar with physical therapy. This facility is different from my previous experiences where you met with the PT the first time and then were sent off to a corner to do exercises during follow-up visits. From my observation and personal experience at WCPT each patient receives detailed time and attention from the therapists. I worked with Yvonne, Chris and Grant. They put a lot of time and thought into helping me reach my PT goals. At the beginning of each visit they listened carefully to my concerns and feelings and sought to carefully address each one with their professional expertise. I also like the way they work together and communicate with each other regarding patient care. Yvonne commented that she wished she had a magic wand to make patients better – in my opinion Yvonne and the team at WCPT are about as close as you will get to waving a magic healing wand at PT issues. Thank you to Yvonne, Chris and Grant for offering your expertise to help me regain my active life.
